November 2020, Lockdown 2:
Due to an overwhelming response to the emergency in Spring 2020 we paused volunteer recruitment back in June.
We are assessing numbers of signed up volunteers across Bristol while preparing for an increased number of calls to the We Are Bristol phoneline.
We may issue an updated call out for new volunteers this November depending on demand.
If you want to help Bristol residents through the next lockdown and are a new volunteer keep an eye out on Can Do Bristol for opportunites to sign up to (BCC coordinated & other organisations).
If you're a Can Do volunteer who signed up to the BCC response in Spring and want to let us know your winter availability please email us:
community.resources@bristol.gov.uk
Thank you for keeping an eye on Can Do Bristol for volunteering opportunities. Residents willingness to help others through these challenging times is heartwarming.
June 2020:
Recruitment of Covid 19 volunteers currently on PAUSE.
Due to a huge and heartwarming response we are not currently inviting new pledges to support this opportunity. Thank you to all those who have supported communities, neighbours, fmaily and friends over the last 2 challenging months. From neighbourly acts of kindness to more formal volunteering we can reduce the negative imapacts of this crisis together.
April 2020: Do you have an enhanced DBS check? (DBS = disclosure and barring service)
You do not have to have a criminal record check to be matched to a support role however we are in particular need of shopping and prescrition pick up volunteers and require a E DBS for this role.
March 2020:
It’s a huge source of pride for us that so many people have begun volunteering to support others.
We want to support this good will and ensure it has the maximum benefit for Bristol. This means helping us all make our offers safely and put them to the right cause, with the right people, at the right time.
When you register below, you will be added to the list of volunteers the city will be able to call on in the coming weeks and months. You may be called on by a community organisation such as Feed Bristol or one of the larger public services working in adult social care or with the NHS.
You may not receive the call straight away. The challenges we are facing will be with us for months and there will be different levels of need at different times. by making yourself available, we will be able to deploy your energy and enthusiasm at the right time for those organisations.
Please note, we have had people wanting to give money. To enable this to be done safely we have set up an account with Quartet Community Foundation. This will be made available to our local public and voluntary service providers.
Thank you. #WeAreBristol.
